Welcome back to the start of the Serger Techniques classes taught by Martha Pitts! Everyone has enjoyed these classes so much but many of you have been unable to attended them all. So we're bringing them back!
Class 1 of technique series will focus on Ruffles, creative uses for the Belt Loop Binders,
decorative piping with the Beading Foot, narrow Wave Stitch, Wave Stitch Corded Piping, serger solutions for Button Closures, edge finish techniques and tips for serging with Minky. BONUS: free Minky pillow pattern
Skill Level: Confident Beginner, knows how to operate machine, familiar with knobs and other parts of machine, able to move, replace & thread needles, able to change presser feet, able to thread for 4-thread, 3-thread, able to convert to 2-thread, able to set up a rolled hem, able to change stitch width and length.
Join us as we explore the basic and advanced features of Baby Lock sergers. Participation in prior technique classes is not required. Each class covers different techniques, stitches, pressure feet and accessories, using both overlock and cover/chain stitches. Classes are intended to help you improve your skills and inspire you to serge apparel, home dec projects, quilting, bag making, and more! Handouts are provided for you to save with your practice samples. While machines do not all have the same feet, accessories, and stitch variety available, where possible, alternative solutions will be provided or encouraged

Supply List
Serger and Cover Stitch Machines or Combo Machine - machine(s) must be in good working order with tools and regular notions: tweezers, scissors, allen screwdriver, accessory screw driver, looper threader, extra needles. 2 each of the following: spool foam caps, spool thread caps, thread net, large foam disk (some models). Additionally, please bring the following:
- Manual and Thread Guides
- Standard Serger Foot
- Beading Foot
- Cording Foot 5mm
- Ruffling Foot
- Shirring Foot (Some models)
- Belt Loop Binder 3/4"
- Cover Chain Foot
- Fabric Guide attachment & thumb screws (some models)
- Combo Machines - sewing table & cutting blade cover
All feet and accessories may not be available for all machines. Please bring as many of the above listed items your machine accommodates.
Fabric: precut woven cotton (scraps, color not important) as follows
- 6 or more Bias Strips 1" wide, 12" or longer
- 6 or more Straight of grain strips 1" wide, 12" or longer
- 6-10 strips 2" to 4" wide and at least 18" long
- 6-10 squares or rectangles, at least 5" wide x 10" long
Notions:
- 1/4" ribbon scraps 10" or longer (satin or grosgrain)
- 1/8" cording - 1 yard
- Double Stick Tape 1/4"
- Clear Elastic
- 3-ring binder, 8-12 clear page protectors, file folder labels for attaching to samples
- Piping Hot Binding Tool
Serger Thread: Madeira or Maxi-Lock recommended
- 4 regular polyester serger cones in 4 different colors (like the pictures in your thread charts)
- 2 spools of Decora #12 - contrasting colors
